| The biblical calendar is lunar, not solar as is the Western calendar. Therefore, the biblical months overlap the traditional Western months and have different names. The Messianic Jewish Art Calendar shows the names of the months in both ways.
The words Rosh Chodesh--literally, "head of the month," signal the beginning of the new moon. The biblical year is reckoned from the traditional beginning of creation. The biblical day begins at sundown--erev--the evening. On Saturday--Shabbat--as on other holy days, it's customary to read prescribed portions of Scripture. The names of these portions are given in Hebrew as well as transliterated English. Because we teach and trust the Brit Chadashah (New Testament), we've suggested a relevant reading from it, as well.
