Jewish life begins and ends in the home, not in the synagogue. This should seem pretty obvious since Jewish people, like most people, spend most of their time in their homes eating, sleeping and just plain living. Because of this, Jewish people have developed a simple book, called a bentcher in Yiddish but commonly spelled bencher in English, that contains specific prayers, blessings and songs to enhance the spiritual, traditional and cultural lives of Jewish people within their homes.
This is a Messianic Jewish Bencher. It is very much like every other bencher you might have seen or used, except that it also speaks clearly of the supremacy of our Messiah, the Lord Yeshua. Whether we are entering or concluding Shabbat and Holidays in our homes, or reciting our thanks to God after we have eaten, this bencher honors Israel’s Messiah within the traditions of the Jewish People as we observe these traditions in our homes with our families. It is my hope that this Budoff Bencher will encourage Jewish followers of Messiah Yeshua in their homes to develop a stronger faith in the God of Israel and practice a more committed traditional observance of Jewish life.—Rabbi Kirk Gliebe
